WHAT THE HOLY SPIRIT IS DOING IN OUR MIDST...

HOLY SPIRIT COME!  JOIN US FOR 'RENEW & RESCUE' OUTREACHES in MARCH, 2010!

On Tuesday, Jan 12th, we gathered in Cedar Rapids with about 40 pastors and key leaders from Vineyard churches throughout Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois. It was a day set aside for gathering together to seek God for all He wants to do in and through our churches in 2010. We sense this is a time of deep change for the church in America and the Holy Spirit is looking for greater access to both our personal lives and to the churches we represent. We believe it's one thing to ask for a season of refreshing from the Holy Spirit (which we desperately need), yet quite another for the Spirit to empower us to join Jesus in His rescue mission to our world.

We believe a move of God must include both! A work of inward renewal to the church and an outward thrust of rescue to the world. In March 2010, we are thrilled to bring together two annointed voices of renewal and rescue to encourage our churches to more.

Bill Davis and Steve Sjogren have both been used over the years to stir the church to more Kingdom power and presence. God has used Bill, on one hand, to stir up the indwelling and empowerment of the Holy Spirit in countless churches, while Steve has been used by the Lord, to help churches find creative, user-friendly methods of taking the compassion of Jesus to our communities through simple acts of kindness.

In March, Bill and Steve will be coming to the midwest to conduct several regional outreach events that you and your church might want to be involved. Below is our tentative agenda:

As I see it, it’s time for a new move of the Holy Spirit amongst our churches. It’s time for pastors to lead our churches away from the familiar model of American church life and let the Holy Spirit take us back into the river of God. As Jack Hayford spoke so clearly to the Vineyard family in 1999, we must not be content to only know where the river runs, we must be willing to jump into the water and let God take us where He wants us to go. As we discussed at our meeting on January 12th, it’s time for a move of the Holy Spirit to take the His church outward to the streets again, bringing the message and ministry of Jesus to a lost and dying world.

As Hap Leman (Midwest Vineyard Regional Leader) recently stated in his “Thoughts about the Future of the Vineyard”, it was John Wimber back in the early 90’s who said with much sadness…

“I don’t believe power evangelism has so much failed as it has simply not been tried.”

I’m really excited that Bill & Darlene Davis and Steve Sjogren have joined together in ministry and are committed to come to Iowa in March to help us continue stir an increased move of the Holy Spirit in our region, a move that is directed toward empowering our people toward outreach ministries of compassion.

I encourage you to:

1) be praying on what all God wants to do with these March meetings

2) inquiring of God if He would like you to participate with these sessions in March.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!  GOD BLESS!  And MORE LORD!

PS...Christy Wimber will be coming to IOWA again in May for some additional vision-casting! More details coming soon!   Check out Christy's new Wimber resource page!

In preparation for our March meetings with Bill Davis and Steve Sjogren, I’d like to share a document with you that I’ve been working on. I’m calling it my thesis on ‘Why the Vineyard Needs Another Strong Outpouring of the Holy Spirit’. I realize it’s a long read and it also contains a couple of YouTube links, but hopefully if you can at least breeze your way through some of it prior to our re-scheduled January meeting, it might better set up for you some of my expectations of why we are getting together!
